A Game of Thrones

A Game of Thrones

by

George R. R. Martin

Hugh is Jon Arryn’s former squire. He becomes a knight when Jon Arryn dies. Ned wants to question Hugh about Jon Arryn’s death, but Gregor Clegane kills Hugh during a jousting tournament. Since Gregor is one of the Lannisters’ soldiers, Ned wonders if the death was accidental or if Gregor intentionally killed Hugh to keep Ned from speaking to him. Varys also suggests that Hugh may have played a role in poisoning Jon Arryn.
