An American who owns a sledge, outfitted with sails, that can efficiently travel on top of snow. Detective Fix meets him at the train station near Fort Kearny in Nebraska, and Phileas Fogg pays Mudge to take him, Jean Passepartout, Aouda, and Fix to Omaha by sledge. Mudge successfully does so, despite the brutal winter weather, which allows Fogg and his companions to catch the train from Omaha to Chicago.
