Margaret Myers Character Analysis

Margaret Myers is a sex worker who takes up residence in the room above Loonie’s family pub. Loonie burrows a spyhole into the wall of her room and watches her with clients, regaling Bruce with wild stories what he sees. Sensing that Bruce doesn’t believe him, he makes Bruce come one day to see for himself. It turns out that the man with Margaret on this occasion is Loonie’s own father, Karl, but Loonie doesn’t look away. The spying scene inaugurates young Bruce’s interest in sex and simultaneously links it with perversion and transgression, a link that will stay with him into adulthood.
