Demon Copperhead

by

Barbara Kingsolver

Angus, born Agnes Winfield, is Coach Winfield’s daughter. She does well in school and initially plans to leave Lee County to go to a four-year college as soon as possible. She is portrayed as steadfastly unique and self-assured and as someone who cares deeply about Demon. Angus supports Demon in whatever he wants in life and is also honest with him when she feels that he is making mistakes and derailing his life. At the end of the novel, after Demon has become sober, he realizes that he and Angus have feelings for each other.
