Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam Character Analysis

An elderly leader of the Bene Gesserit order, Mohiam trained Lady Jessica and serves as the Padishah Emperor’s truthsayer. Before Paul Atreides travels to Arrakis, she tests him with the gom jabbar in order to discover if he is human or animal—in other words, whether he bends to his animal instincts or has mastery over his mind and body. She furthermore wants to find out if he is the Bene Gesserit prophesized messiah known as the Kwisatz Haderach.
