A journalist from Life magazine who is also covering the Mint 400 in Las Vegas. Duke meets the Life reporter at the bar of the Mint Hotel, where the man is a drunken mess. He falls to his knees after “losing his grip on the bar,” but he continues to talk about the importance of reporting the event with “definite authority.” Duke is horrified by the reporter’s unprofessional behavior. “We are, after all, the absolute cream of the national sporting press,” Duke says. The drunk reporter portrays journalists as a despicable bunch, a profession that Duke later claims is “a cheap catch-all for fuckoffs and misfits.”
