An Amerindian meat stew that is popular in Guyana and the Caribbean. The dish, which is seasoned with cinnamon, hot peppers and cassareep (a hot, black liquid made from cassava) is usually served on special occasions, such as Christmas. Beef is most commonly used as the meat, but mutton and pork are occasionally used instead.
