As a bookseller in Boston at the start of the Revolution, Knox was personally impacted by the rising British taxes. Later, he would steward the remarkable expedition to secretly transport arms from Fort Ticonderoga in New York up to Boston. Though some French newcomers pushed to take over Knox’s high military rank, he was such a quintessential Patriot hero that all of the Frenchmen’s efforts failed.
