Mary’s Stepfather Character Analysis

Mary’s stepfather is an alcoholic who married Mary’s mother. Mary despised being around him: he never took care of her and her siblings, and he stared at her in a way that made her uncomfortable, which suggests that he may have been a sexual predator. He also introduced Mary to alcohol when she was just 10 years old, and she quickly developed a toxic relationship with alcohol, which she explains is a common issue on reservations.
