Eliza Tomelty Character Analysis

Eliza Tomelty is Mr. Tomelty’s wife. Tom meets her in the Tomeltys’ flat one night, where she spends a great deal of time talking to Tom and showing him the book she wrote about tea. However, Tom later discovers from Mr. Tomelty that Mrs. Tomelty died during a burglary many years earlier. Despite this, Tom later sees Mrs. Tomelty looking at him through the window. Thus, Mrs. Tomelty is one of the ghosts—or hallucinations—that Tom encounters throughout the novel.
