Skellig: Chapter 43 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
At school the next day, Michael makes amazing plays during the recess football game. After the game, Leaky tackles Michael, and they wrestle. Leaky pins Michael to the ground and looks ready to punch him, but then Leaky flops beside Michael and they laugh. Mrs. Dando calls Michael and Leaky inside. As they walk in, Leaky says that Michael has been miles away—he asks if Michael will tell him about it. Feeling Leaky’s sincerity, Michael says he will tell him everything one day. Seeing Coot by the door, Michael says he might even tell that “crazy nut.”
The improvement of Michael’s life manifests itself in Michael’s wanting to be honest with everyone. When everything was falling apart in Michael’s life, he felt alienated from school and friends, and felt that his life was cut up into separate, incommunicable parts. This suggests that the turn for the better that Michael has now experienced has led him to believe in unity and purpose in the world.
