Amanda Knox Character Analysis

Amanda Knox is an American woman who was wrongfully convicted of murdering her roommate, Meredith Kercher, while studying abroad in Perugia, Italy in 2007. Even though there was a distinct lack of evidence tying Knox to the crime, the Italian Supreme Court found Knox and her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, guilty of the murder. Much of the prosecution’s case against Knox rested on the allegedly strange, guilty behavior she exhibited after Kercher’s death—behavior the public deemed not in line with typical responses to grief and trauma. Gladwell sees Knox as an example of a “mismatched” person, someone whose outer behaviors and demeanor do not align with their inner feelings or with how society expects them to behave.
