Roger Character Analysis

Roger is a widower from Addie’s village, Villon-sur-Sarthe. He chooses Addie, then 23, to be his second wife and care for him and his children. Addie recoils at the idea of being anybody’s wife, but she has no power to decline Roger’s offer. Desperate for a way out, she escapes to the woods just before her wedding is supposed to take place and prays to the gods to help her. Luc answers her prayers, and this is how Addie enters into a deal with him.
