The Moviegoer

by

Walker Percy

Uncle Jules is married to Aunt Emily and is Kate’s father. He and Emily met when he was a widower and she was serving in Europe with the Red Cross. He is pleasant, wealthy, well-liked, and a good Catholic. Binx works for him, selling the stocks and bonds that Jules underwrites. He is cheerfully oblivious to Kate’s severe struggles with her mental health, believing that nothing can go wrong in the family on Emily’s watch. He dies of a heart attack at the end of the book.
