The Priest of Apollo Character Analysis

Father to enslaved 15-year-old Chryseis, the Trojan priest of Apollo ventures into the Greek war camp to ransom his daughter from Greek high commander Agamemnon, who has enslaved her. After Agamemnon refuses the priest’s ransom, threatens him, and publicly humiliates him, the priest of Apollo leaves the camp in terror—but Briseis overhears him praying to Apollo to punish the Greeks with plague. Briseis, inspired, begins praying for plague to kill the Greeks too. Afterward, plague does strike the Greek camp, and Achilles pressures Agamemnon to return Chryseis to her father.
