Hukum Chand’s Sikh colleague who takes trips to Lahore, Pakistan to buy his wife jewelry. While there, Prem spends a lot of time at Faletti’s Hotel—a frequent meeting place for European sahibs and their wives. He offers them beer, particularly the Englishmen, in an effort to establish friendly relations. The Englishmen describe him as “a nice old Wog,” which reflects their approval of his character but also makes it clear that the English do not respect him as an equal.
