The Street Food Vendor’s Nephew
A surly customer notorious among the women in the brothel for his anger and violent outbursts, Bitter Ma arranges for him to spend time with Leila one evening, hopeful she can satisfy him in ways the other women have been unable to. Alone in Leila’s room, the man suddenly attacks her with sulfuric acid in an attempt to mutilate her, scarring her back and burning a hole in the brothel’s floorboards in the process. Though Bitter Ma largely blames herself after the attack, Leila’s popularity among the brothel’s clientele grows as a result of her traumatic experience.
