The two men in the silver Mercedes are Leila’s murderers, and she is their fourth victim. Emotionless and cold, the two cousins are driven by a twisted religious ideology, believing they are saving the souls of sex workers by killing them. After each murder, they collect a new porcelain angel figurine to symbolize the souls they have “saved.” When Leila exits the Intercontinental Hotel after meeting the young gay man, the men in the Mercedes approach her, offering money for her company. After murdering her, they dump her body in a garbage bin on the outskirts of Istanbul—the event that marks the beginning of the novel.
