Gregor Clegane/The Mountain
Sam is a recruit who enters the Night’s Watch after Jon Snow. Several trainees in the Night’s Watch ridicule Sam, and Alliser embarrasses Sam during combat training. In response, Jon Snow sticks up for Sam and makes sure no one will make fun of him. Sam and Jon become close friends. After taking his vows for the Night’s Watch, Sam becomes Maester Aemon’s steward.
