Warden Williams Character Analysis

The frightening and powerful warden of Alcatraz is also Piper’s father. He’s the boss of every employee at the prison, and in addition to overseeing the convicts, he also demands complete obedience from his employees’ children—he insists at several points that he can and will punish or fire his employees for their children’s transgressions. Though he encourages Moose to learn to think for himself, Moose also suspects that Warden Williams prioritizes obedience more than independent thinking. Warden Williams adores Piper and looks past at least some of her own rule-breaking, though it’s implied that he’s aware of (and punishes her for) more than what Piper lets on to her friends.
