Lord Brakehurst Character Analysis

Lord Brakehurst is the last of Mr. Metcalfe’s named neighbors. “A class apart,” he is the wealthiest of them all, and he owns the most land. The name of the local inn, The Brakehurst Arms, suggests that he has sway in the community, too. However, Waugh implies that Mr. Metcalfe is giving him some competition by the end of the story.
