Grit

by

Angela Duckworth

Anson Dorrance is the coach of the nationally dominant UNC-Chapel Hill women’s soccer team, which won 21 of the first 31 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championships. Every year, Dorrance gives his players a series of assessments (including the Grit Scale) and makes them memorize literary quotes that represent the team’s values. Duckworth uses his coaching style as an example of how leaders can build a culture of grit in their organizations.
