Thomas Clarkson was a British abolitionist in the 1790s. He collected torture instruments as evidence of injustice, and started a visual campaign distributing posters of slave ships. With the help of testimony from a former slave, he crusaded against slavery and reshaped British visions of the country’s moral priorities. In Half the Sky, he models what modern abolitionists can also achieve.
