Summary
Analysis
Machado visits an anechoic chamber with a friend. As she lies there, she hears every part of her body making a sound. She thinks she could lose her grip on reality if she stays there too long and wonders at the lack of echo. When she claps, there’s no reverberation.
Machado’s experience of feeling torn apart from her body echoes her feeling of emptiness after breaking up with the woman from the Dream House. Not being able to control or sense her own body makes her feel powerless.
