Analysis
Aaron and Nia talk on the couch at the party, then they start to make out. Craig and Ronny drink Scotch from a thermos. A blonde girl named Julie comes over to Craig and starts talking. She says she wants to make out with someone. Craig considers kissing her, but he doesn’t want her to be his first kiss. He’s surprised to learn later that he hurt her feelings by rejecting her. He gets sleepy at the party, and when he wakes up again at 2:07 a.m., Aaron and Nia are gone from the couch.
This passage highlights how Craig thinks of himself as undesirable romantically, even despite clear evidence that some people seem to like him. This demonstrates how one of the symptoms of Craig’s depression is low self-esteem, which causes him to judge himself more harshly than the people around him do.
