Jean Espagnol is a witness in the trial of Martin Guerre at Rieux. Jean testifies that the man claiming to be Martin Guerre is actually Arnaud du Tilh, whom he has known since birth. Espagnol testified that a year or so before the trial, Arnaud du Tilh boasted that the real Martin Guerre gave du Tilh permission to impersonate him in Artigues.
