Quigley is a young Irish soldier who joins Willie’s company on the Western Front in early 1916. His first experience of war is the battle at Hulluch, during which he’s exposed to poisonous gas. Quigley survives the gas attack and remains part of Willie’s company, befriending Joe Kielty and his other comrades. Later in 1916, he dies during the capture of Guinchy.
