Captain Andrew Speedy Character Analysis

The Welsh captain of the Henrietta trading vessel that is harbored on Hudson Bay in New York City. Having faced delays on the long journey from San Francisco to New York, Phileas Fogg desperately offers Captain Speedy £8,000 to take him (along with Jean Passepartout, Aouda, and Detective Fix) along with him to Bordeaux, France. Captain Speedy accepts, but Fogg bribes the crew to overtake Speedy and hold him captive in his cabin while Fogg commandeers the boat to Liverpool. When the Henrietta is about to run out of coal, Fogg buys the boat from Captain Speedy for £60,000 so that he can burn it as fuel.
