Jorkins is an old school fellow of Charles’s. Although Charles and Jorkins were never close friends, Charles invites Jorkins to dinner one night with his father, Mr. Ryder, because he is so bored at home and sick of his father’s company. Jorkins does not enjoy the dinner, however, because Mr. Ryder teases him throughout.
