Captain John Derby is the famous Salem captain who carried out two important missions related to American independence. First, he carried the news of the Battle of Lexington across the Atlantic from the colonies to England. Later, he carries news back to America when the warring sides finally sign their peace treaty. He’s universally celebrated as a hero in Salem.
