Freddy Brunner Character Analysis

Freddy is a mutual acquaintance of Tracey, Cynthia, Jessie, and Stan who works at Olstead’s Steel Tubing. Near the beginning of the play, an article appears in Reading, Pennsylvania’s local paper reporting that Freddy burned his own house down. Stan and the others theorize that this was due to Freddy’s stress over his failed marriage and debt, as well as rumors of impending cutbacks at Olstead’s. As such, Freddy represents the dire personal consequences that can arise from financial hardship.
