Larry assigns the names “Mrs. Left” and “Mrs. Right” to his feet. Mrs. Left and Mrs. Right are meant to entertain, advise, and validate Larry. Mrs. Right plays a more prominent role in Larry’s discussions, as Mrs. Left is generally silent and defers to Mrs. Right. Mrs. Left and Mrs. Right are used as a way of helping Larry work through things, making them particularly useful when Larry’s father returns home. In a lengthy discussion about fathers, Mrs. Right shares an anecdote about putting her father in “the Home,” convincing Larry that his own Father ought to be sent there (despite Larry’s admission of not knowing exactly what “the Home” is). Although Mrs. Left and Mrs. Right are technically two distinct characters and provide Larry with companionship, they are ultimately extensions of Larry who fade in prominence as Larry matures.
