Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States. He signed into law the Removal Act of 1830, which authorized the removal of Indian tribes living in the eastern United States from their land to make room for the development of towns in the eastern U.S. One of the most infamous events associated with Jackson and the Removal Act was the relocation of the Cherokee from Georgia to Oklahoma, which is known as the Trail of Tears. Around 4,000 Cherokee died on the journey.
