Highton Character Analysis

Highton is a student at St. Peter’s School. After the St. Peter’s Headmaster canes Roald following Captain Hardcastle’s false accusation of cheating, Highton tells Roald that he will write to his father to insist that justice be served. Although nothing results from Highton’s effort, Roald is deeply moved by Highton’s kind gesture—especially since Roald’s own father is dead and unable to advocate for him. For Roald, the incident serves as evidence that boys can be kind to one another even in an unkind environment.
