Piers Langley Character Analysis

A friend of Juliet, Sophie, and Sidney. He disappeared in Burma in 1943 and a month before the novel begins, he mysteriously reappears in Australia. The news is that he's turned to alcohol to deal with the trauma of the war, and Sidney flies to Australia to help care for him. Though the novel never says it outright, it's implied that Piers is gay and is possibly involved with Sidney.
