Solomon/Edward Character Analysis

Edward is Andrew’s father and Clarence’s son, while Solomon is Edward’s fictional stand-in in Harold Vanner’s novel Bonds. Solomon/Edward is also Wilhelmina/Grace’s husband. In Bonds, Solomon owns an estate in Cuba, something that Andrew says could never be true of his father Edward. In Andrew’s telling, Edward is the opposite of his father Clarence. While Clarence is reserved and keeps to himself, Edward is outgoing and has a vibrant social life. In Bonds, Solomon dies while Benjamin is in high school, while in Andrew’s telling, Edward dies when Andrew is four years old.
