Emma Borden is Josiah Borden’s wife and one of the chorus of villagers in The Hunted. Though the trilogy treats Emma with a slightly mocking touch, poking fun at her tendency to gossip, she is also one of the only characters (outside of Lavinia) to suspect that there is something strange in the way Christine responds to Ezra’s death. Emma’s greater level of insight might suggest that, in the plays, women are more attuned to the way Christine manipulates the people around her than men are.
