Mourning Becomes Electra

by

Eugene O’Neill

Joe Small is a local hardware store clerk in the Mannons’ New England town. He is also a member of the chorus of villagers in the trilogy’s third play, The Haunted. On a dare from the other neighborhood men, Joe Small ventures into the empty Mannon household—but he quickly runs out, believing he has seen the ghost of Ezra, “dressed like a judge comin’ through the wall.”
