Vinçard Character Analysis

Vinçard is one of the independent shop owners who shares the street with Baudu’s drapery shop and the Ladies’ Paradise. He owns a fabric manufacturing shop, which he ultimately sells to Robineau and Robineau’s wife. Though he insists he does so because he’s in poor health, Vinçard starts a restaurant after selling the shop because the restaurant business is more lucrative—and it means he doesn’t have to compete with the Ladies’ Paradise.
