This committee, composed of members of Iraqi security forces and of U.S. intelligence, launches an investigation against Brigadier Majid’s Tracking and Pursuit Department. It concludes its inquiry by denouncing the presence of astrologers in a department that was meant to pursue administrative work. Ultimately, it fires the entire staff. It also interrogates “the writer,” destroys his novel, and prohibits him from rewriting it, because it reveals some of the Department’s secret activities.
