Mrs. Corcoran Character Analysis

Mrs. Corcoran is a neighbor of the Moody family with a dominating personality and a high, sharp voice. Her assertive demeanor often overshadows her husband, Mr. Corcoran. Soon after the Moody family’s arrival, she employs Ralph as cowherd, offering him 25 cents a day. Though she eventually raises his wage to 35 cents, she often criticizes Ralph over minor mistakes and blames him for things out of his control. Because of this, Ralph does not enjoy working for Mrs. Corcoran and when she insults Ralph’s family for being poor, Ralph quits with his father’s permission.
