Domi (the Duchess) Character Analysis

Domi is a middle-aged white woman who inherits a tech company from her wealthy father, Claude Duchess. She and Margaret are friends who live together during the Crisis. In those years, Domi rejects her father’s financial assistance out of a sense of ethics and pride. Domi is furious when Margaret moves into Ethan’s comfortable apartment, since she sees this as selling out. However, Domi also tires of the unsafe world and eventually accepts her father’s help, hiding out in his isolated cabin for the remainder of the Crisis. In later years, Domi uses her inheritance to make donations to public libraries and locate children removed from their families, including Sadie. Her character illustrates how people from wealthy backgrounds have the choice to ignore issues that don’t directly affect them or to use their privilege to help others.
