Bordeaux Mathias Nathanial “Bordy” Clarke Character Analysis

Bordeaux “Bordy” Clarke is Maxine’s father. He emigrated to London from Jamaica with his parents at a young age, and as a young adult, he earned the admiration of others in his community after obtaining a degree from an English university. He becomes a mathematician, and after he obtains a teaching position in Australia, he and Cleopatra move to Australia to start their family. Compared to Cleopatra, Bordeaux is not as present in the Clarke household, but he is shown to bond with his children by sharing his music with them and building them things, such as their own BMX bikes. However, he ultimately leaves Cleopatra for his affair partner, fracturing the family.
