Maxine Beneba Clarke

Lewis is Maxine’s primary school crush. In grade two, Maxine gets Lewis to kiss her on the cheek during Catch and Kiss, which causes awkwardness between them for a while, but they become friends when they get a little older. Maxine and Lewis are both good students, causing them to develop a friendly rivalry in which they compare their grades and tease each other. Eventually, Lewis starts dating another girl in the school, which saddens Maxine, but she understands.
