Erkel is a member of the revolutionary faction. He is in charge of bringing Shatov to the outskirts of Varvara’s estate when the revolutionary faction murders him. Erkel is a true believer in the revolutionary cause and refuses to answer questions from authorities even after Lyamshin and Virginsky have confessed and implicated Erkel in Shatov’s murder.
