Clive’s Girlfriend/Lindsey Character Analysis

Lindsey is Clive’s girlfriend and lives with him in Cambridge. Marcus and Fiona both like Lindsey well enough, although Fiona sometimes expresses disdain for her. Marcus particularly likes Lindsey’s mum, who sometimes gives him money for no apparent reason. Lindsey represents Clive’s “new” life after his separation from Fiona, one in which Marcus generally feels distant from his father, like more of an afterthought than a priority. In a misdirected response to these feelings, Marcus snaps at Lindsey when she arrives with Clive at the police station, but he is ultimately forgiven.
