Johnny Ambrose Character Analysis

Johnny Ambrose is Chase’s older brother. Johnny has a tense relationship with his father, Frank, who openly claims that his mother’s softer parenting style made him a “wimp.” Johnny is very caring toward Chase in the immediate aftermath of Chase’s accident; although he’s a college student, he comes home to support Chase during his juvenile court hearing for stealing Mr. Solway’s Medal of Honor. The care and support that Johnny gives Chase contrast with Chase’s pre-accident attitude toward Johnny, whom Chase—under the influence of his overbearing, macho father—judged to be a “wuss.” Johnny’s goodness and maturity indicate that there are better models of masculinity than the one that sports-obsessed Frank has been modeling for Chase.
