The Gulag Archipelago: Part 3, Chapter 9: The Trusties Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
This chapter is entirely excised and replaced by a brief description from the editor. It reads: “‘Trusties’ were prisoners who got themselves what were by camp standards soft jobs. They were despised by other prisoners.”
Other prisoners despised Trusties because Trusties were effectively part of the Soviet system. Trusties were able to land “soft jobs” because they pledged their loyalty to the guards, hence their name.
