Chapter 6 is entirely excised and replaced by a brief description from the editor. In the excised chapter, Solzhenitsyn describes his experience living in exile in Kazakhstan.
The title of the chapter is somewhat tongue in cheek. Although life in exile was far better than life in the Gulag, it still had its challenges. It could only be considered a “good life” by someone like Solzhenitsyn, who lived for so long under hellish oppression.
