Dr. Yu Tsun is a spy for the Germans during World War I in “The Garden of Forking Paths.” He is Chinese and seeks to prove to his Chief that a Chinese man can be useful to the German cause. The story is told in the form of Dr. Yu Tsun’s deposition for the crime of killing Stephen Albert, whom he killed to send a secret message that British troops were gathering in Albert, France. Though Yu Tsun fulfills this mission, he admires Albert and feels guilty about killing him.
